The gas station fiasco

When exactly did gas prices get so ridiculous? Oh, I know: Wednesday, August 31. Regular unleaded gas jumped from $2.47/gallon to $3.00/gallon overnight. I even saw some places selling it for $3.50/gallon! Not only were the prices through the roof, but it was nearly impossible to even get in to a gas station. I sat in the turn lane, waiting in line, for nearly 30 minutes. Throughout the duration of this, I was surrounded by belligerent customers, honking and screaming at each other. Thank you, Hurricane Katrina. I do have to stop and think, though, about how worse off the people in New Orleans are. I read on MSNBC.com that nearly 80% of the city is flooded with up to 20 feet of water. I guess what they’re going through down there is a lot worse than what we’re going through at the gas station. Hopefully this can all be resolved soon.

Shifting gears completely, all of my senior stuff for the yearbook is done. My mom sent in my senior ad (full of embarassing childhood photos), and I just picked out my senior quotes. The first is a lyric from “Babies of the 80s” by Something Corporate, and the second is a quote that I stole from drinkmealice.net.

“Babies of the 80’s / Little girls in lycra shorts / Tented beds, nerf contact sports / My babies of the 80’s / Shout it out just one more time / For the generation that was all mine”
— Andrew McMahon

“Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong.”
— James Leo Herlihy

And on that note, I’m off to bed.
