the patriot act;
My next point kind of ties in with the previous point. The Patriot Act (
Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism)... big mistake, George. What exactly does this act give the government the power to do? Now they can search your stuff without probable cause. Doesn't that sound splendid? The FBI now has the power to access all your personal medical and financial records with "probable cause" going out the window. People can even be jailed for up to
six months without trial on mere
suspic Is this sounding like the Alien and Sedition Acts to anyone?! How ridiculous.
basic civil rights;
With Bush destroying everything else this country is built on, he couldn't turn down the opportunity to destroy some civil liberties. He was talking about a Consitutional ammendment to ban same-sex marriage, which is just absolutely ridiculous. He claims to be protecting the sancity or marriage by not letting gay and lesbian couples marry, but many heterosexual couples destroy the sancity of marriage everyday. How can George W. Bush allow Britney Spears to marry her childhood friend in Las Vegas (only to annul the marriage 55 hours later), but not let loving homosexual couples, who truly love each other and want to spend their lives together, get married like everyone else? It's discrimination, and he's mixing the government with religion. I also do not agree with his stance on abortion; I'm pro-choice. What ever happened to seperation of church and state? Apparently that's gone down the toilet, along with our economy.
the economy;
Oh joy, the economy. Let's start with Bush's tax cuts, which were supposed to "reduce tax rates for everyone who pays income tax." That's untrue; only the wealthy citizens of the US are receiving these tax breaks. On top of these tax cuts, Bush has doubled the federal spending. That's just not a good combination. What is the national debt up to now? Is it 4 or 5 trillion dollars? And with the economy going down the toilet, so are the jobs in America. Over 3 million jobs have been lost since 2001 (more than the last 11 Presidents combined).
education;
Bush is also not going along with is "No Child Left Behind Act", originated to further education. But wait, why did he cut $200 million from the program? He's also ceased training for over 20,000 teachers. We also can't forget that this program was based on his "Texas Miracle" plan, which was a complete and utter failure.
conclusion;
I'm not even close to hitting on every major issue of this election. I just did a few key ones that I know and care about.
I know many of you are thinking, "well, at least George Bush has made it known what he stands for." Sure, that's admirable. But if you look at it, John Kerry has made his views known too. The fact of the matter is, I don't agree with what George Bush "stands for", so that argument doesn't sway my decision. Now, I'm not going to sit here and write a page about what a bumbling fool George is, how he can't speak properly, and how looks like a monkey. That's just not my style. Sure, those are funny things to laugh at, and I'm sure even Bush supporters joke around about it. But that's not how I'd pick my president. I just presented some of my key facts for not supporting Bush, and I'll let you decide.
I'd also like to point out that I do not worship John Kerry. I don't believe everything that comes out of his mouth is what I believe in, and I don't think he's the best Democratic cantidate. But he's all we've got, and I support him a hell of a lot more than I support Bush. So yay, go Kerry.
My sources for the above statements have come from just watching the news and staying informed. You can also find some good stuff on google too.
