College acceptance number 1 · posted at 11:59 am · 26 comments Current music:
Jack's Mannequin - "Miss Delaney"
I’m proud to announce that I was accepted to the University of Missouri for the 2006-2007 school year! Right now, this is my top choice for a college. They have an excellent journalism program, and that’s what I plan on studying. But now I’m faced with another challenge: should I settle for this or continue applying to other places?
My friend is attending Missouri right now as a freshman. Next weekend, I’m going to Columbia to visit her and to try to figure out what college is really like. She also has tickets to the Coldplay concert in St. Louis, so we’ll be going to that together, too.

Aqueduct - "Hardcore Days and Softcore Nights"
I’m an OC junkie, so it’s only fitting that I make an entry about the season premiere. Here are some thoughts that ran through my head while watching (and they probably won’t make sense unless you saw the episode). Caution: spoilers!
Ryan’s hair: what happened? How did he have time to stop for a haircut on the way to the hospital after his brother was shot? (Yes, I realize that the episode took place a few months after the shooting. However, Ryan’s hair was short in his dream that took place in the hospital, which doesn’t make sense. I notice continuity mistakes like this all the time.)
Oh, and Marissa’s weave was insane, too.
I loved Seth’s comments about baseball. (I really need to rewind the tape so I can get the quotes exactly, but here’s the jist of the conversation between Seth and Ryan.)
Seth: I just don’t understand that thing they call, uh, baseball.
Ryan: You mean our national pasttime?
Seth: I see it as more of a fad, really.
I was really hoping for an Oliver comeback. With Kirstin in rehab, it would be a perfect time to reintroduce him to the show. They could be buddies, or something. Instead, Kirstin is hanging out with some lesbian-esque sketchy woman who I’m hoping will not become a regular on the show. I just know she’s going to ruin Kirstin and Sandy’s relationship. If they can’t make it, no one can.
I usually love Julie Cooper, but she seemed too evil in this episode. Bribing Trey to blame the whole shooting on Ryan? How could she do that to her daughter’s boyfriend? Oh right, she’s Julie Cooper; there really are no morals for her.
Where’s Jess? I miss her, even though she’s an evil little coke whore who ruined everyone’s lives. Oh well.
Reunion was surprisingly good. Did anyone else notice that Hayley from The OC is one of the six characters? She sure gets around on all of these Fox shows: first The OC, then North Shore, and now Reunion. All within a year or two. Damn.
Thanks for reading. Hit up my comments with your thoughts on the episode. I’m interested to hear what everyone else thought!

Death Cab for Cutie - "Summer Skin"
I feel horribly insensitive for saying this, but the media frenzy over Hurricane Katrina needs to stop right now. Yes, it was arguably one of the biggest natural disasters in the history of the United States, but I’d like to know what else is going on in the world. Did anyone happen to catch that the chief justice of the Supreme Court died recently? I was lucky I saw it during the brief time it was actually covered on the news. That kind of story would normally draw a large amount of media attention, but instead all I hear is how gross the water is in New Orleans. Or how the mayor wants everyone to evacuate. Yes, we know already. I’m not saying that the media should ignore this story completely, but give some of the other news a chance to be heard. I honestly feel so uninformed about what’s going on now in all other aspects of the world, but I could tell you a book’s worth of information about the Katrina aftermath.
Edit I’m editting this just for clarification purposes, after receiving several sour comments about this entry. Yes, I know my opinion is unpopular; however, many of you who commented completely misunderstood what I wrote. Either that, or you just chose to ignore it. Anyway, all I’m saying is that I believe the media isn’t doing a very good job of delivering the rest of the news. Yes, Katrina is a very big story right now, and rightfully so, but I’d like to hear about what else is going on in the world and in my country. I’m not saying Katrina isn’t important or that I don’t feel sorry for any of the victims. Please do not put words in my mouth and make me out to be this evil, heartless person. I’m not, I promise! /Edit
And on a related note, I’m hoping that Kanye West’s 15 minutes of fame will expire soon. I’m definitely not a Bush supporter, but what he said at the NBC telethon was completely out of line and stupid. People will do anything to attack Bush, even for stuff that’s not his fault. If only people would think a little longer before they speak. They’d have such strong arguments against Bush if they just collected their thoughts before throwing around unfounded accusations.
Edit Again, to clarify for people who haven’t heard about this… Kanye West said on live television that “Bush doesn’t care about black people.” /Edit
There’s been so much happening in my life lately, most of which I can’t even condense enough to blog about. I took a trip to New York over the weekend to attend what will probably be my last US It’s been somewhat of a tradition over the years, and I’m sad to see it end now that I’ll be going off to college next year.
If I have time this weekend and decide to go through with it, I’m going to start work on my new domain. I’ve had this one for over two years now, and I think it’s time for a change. I haven’t fully decided yet, though, so we’ll see.

The gas station fiasco · posted at 12:20 am · 32 comments Current music:
Jack's Mannequin - "La La Lie"
When exactly did gas prices get so ridiculous? Oh, I know: Wednesday, August 31. Regular unleaded gas jumped from $2.47/gallon to $3.00/gallon overnight. I even saw some places selling it for $3.50/gallon! Not only were the prices through the roof, but it was nearly impossible to even get in to a gas station. I sat in the turn lane, waiting in line, for nearly 30 minutes. Throughout the duration of this, I was surrounded by belligerent customers, honking and screaming at each other. Thank you, Hurricane Katrina. I do have to stop and think, though, about how worse off the people in New Orleans are. I read on MSNBC.com that nearly 80% of the city is flooded with up to 20 feet of water. I guess what they’re going through down there is a lot worse than what we’re going through at the gas station. Hopefully this can all be resolved soon.
Shifting gears completely, all of my senior stuff for the yearbook is done. My mom sent in my senior ad (full of embarassing childhood photos), and I just picked out my senior quotes. The first is a lyric from “Babies of the 80s” by Something Corporate, and the second is a quote that I stole from drinkmealice.net.
“Babies of the 80’s / Little girls in lycra shorts / Tented beds, nerf contact sports / My babies of the 80’s / Shout it out just one more time / For the generation that was all mine”
— Andrew McMahon
“Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong.”
— James Leo Herlihy
And on that note, I’m off to bed.

Jason Mraz - "You and I Both"
“This night’s a perfect shade of Dark Blue.” A new layout is up featuring Andrew McMahon and that amazing song. I love it so much.

And now, I leave you with some quasi interesting facts that I learned while reading Fast Food Nation: 01. The McDonalds golden arches are more recognizable than the Christian cross. 02. Most of the food in fast food restaurants is automatically cooked by machines. The food arrives frozen, and shakes/sodas begin as syrup. 03. Fast food restaurants are now more attractive to armed robbers than convenience stores, gas stations, or banks. 04. McDonalds’ Chicken McNuggets are cooked in beef extract. In addition, they’re more fattening than the hamburgers.
That being said, I’m never going to eat at or work in a fast food restaurant ever again!
