The gas station fiasco
When exactly did gas prices get so ridiculous? Oh, I know: Wednesday, August 31. Regular unleaded gas jumped from $2.47/gallon to $3.00/gallon overnight. I even saw some places selling it for $3.50/gallon! Not only were the prices through the roof, but it was nearly impossible to even get in to a gas station. I sat in the turn lane, waiting in line, for nearly 30 minutes. Throughout the duration of this, I was surrounded by belligerent customers, honking and screaming at each other. Thank you, Hurricane Katrina. I do have to stop and think, though, about how worse off the people in New Orleans are. I read on MSNBC.com that nearly 80% of the city is flooded with up to 20 feet of water. I guess what they’re going through down there is a lot worse than what we’re going through at the gas station. Hopefully this can all be resolved soon.
Shifting gears completely, all of my senior stuff for the yearbook is done. My mom sent in my senior ad (full of embarassing childhood photos), and I just picked out my senior quotes. The first is a lyric from “Babies of the 80s” by Something Corporate, and the second is a quote that I stole from drinkmealice.net.
“Babies of the 80’s / Little girls in lycra shorts / Tented beds, nerf contact sports / My babies of the 80’s / Shout it out just one more time / For the generation that was all mine”
— Andrew McMahon
“Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong.”
— James Leo Herlihy
And on that note, I’m off to bed.

overnight? pfft. our gas prices rose 50 cents within 15 minutes. That’s more than crazy, and though I know that New Orleans is much worse off, and that I should barely be complaining, it’s just a hassle to have to pay so much for gas - and I don’t even drive!
nice quotes! Is your senior page like an actual page (haha how descriptive) where the content of it is all yours and such? If so, that’s really cool.

I’m glad that you realize that there are people worse off then you. Because I was quite upsed until I read that. People think it’s bad waiting just 30 minutes for gas or 45 minutes, or even an hour when the people down there wait over half a day. It’s sickening. I feel so bad for everybody.

Ah… remember when gas prices used to be around $1.00?
That was when I was a kid. I’m glad I don’t have a car yet.

Gas is absolutely outrageous, ours shot up 10 cents last Friday, I believe from $2.89 to $2.99 in a span of 5 hours at the most. I was completely shocked when I read the sign. You’re right though, the thoughts running through their minds in New Orleans we can’t even imagine. It’s like trying to comfort someone who lost a family member, all the words you say, all the time you think you know, you don’t and never will until you lose a family member. Same goes for them, losing their homes, families, pets, materials. I’d hate to know I lost the place I’ve grown up, the place I’ve come to be comfortable in. It’s saddening really and my heart goes out to all of those affected. I really like the quote you took from drinkmealice, it’s such a true quote. Blah, I just rambled a whole bunch and I’m almost certain I made no sense. Wow.

I just got my drivers license. Actually have not drove since I passed the test because I don’t have a car. I live with my boyfriend who drives a stick, which I can’t do.
I don’t think the gas prices are that high here in Utah. But I thinks its close to $3. It sucks because my boyfriend is not going to be able to see his sone for a while because we can not afford gas.
I didn’t get to do the senior stuff. I graduated eairly. Was not even able to go to prom. It sucked, but at least I got out of there. Now im on my own, doing my own thing. Its great….most of the time.

Gas prices here jumped from $2.41 (pre-Katrina) to $3.39. Sigh. It’s going to cost us over $50 to fill up our gas tank. :/
Hmm… baby pictures. Do share.

I rather be waiting for a gas station than screaming for help on my rooftop with dead bodies floating nearby. It’s just really hard to imagine what they are going through, like a strange horror movie.
Good choices for quotes.

PSHHHHH i remember when i used to bitch cause the gas was about 1.79 when i first started drivin. now its around 2.99-3.65 here in texas. so far, here in my small town close to houston, we’ve gotten 300+ evacuees from new orleans. around 100 kids are enrolling in our school district. its really sad tho. this one new kid that already started at our highschool is in my spanish 3 class, was crying and had to leave the class. i felt so sorry for him. it’s humbling to know that im so lucky to have my home and friends and everything…we’re all so blessed.
well ttyl!

It’s crazy what’s going on right now. Hurricane Katrina, oil prices, Iraq, etc… this world is messed up. e_e It’s sad to think about. It must be insane over in New Orleans.
Hmm, I’ve never bought a year book. They cost too much money. And sometimes people don’t even get their orders. All throughout junior high, everyone bought the yearbooks in September and then had to wait for them to come out in June. For the 2 years that I was there, Grade 8 and 9 people who bought the yearbooks never received them. The company didn’t even deliver them. Nobody got anything! People got them in Grade 7, but otherwise it was just stolen money. And the school didn’t do anything about it. :X

My parents, that live in CHicago, paid $3.34.. Surprisingly, this morning at 3am, my boyfriend and I had paid only $2.57 for gas, but I haven’t seen what the prices are like after I got out of work.
Usually Indiana’s gas is lower then everywhere else, though I’m sure it spiked just like elsewhere. It’s pretty rediculous though, that it’s so much. I miss when gas was $1.00 or less.

Yeah, I heard something on the radio today about Georgia not getting gas shipments for 20 days? I’m sure it’s a rumor, but still.. either way you look at it the prices are sky rocketing. I got off of work at ten pm tonight, on my drive home EVERY SINGLE GAS STATION was packed, lines out to the streets. Half of them didn’t have any gas left at all. And sadly, at work earlier that day I met some people from New Orleans. It’s heart breaking, really. I shouldn’t bitch about the prices.. but still.. it’s hard to afford when you work only two nights a week and weekends while attending school at the same time. I’m sure you know that though. Anyway, I got my senior stuff done ages ago due to being on yearbook staff. Woo to the hoo! Hopefully your pictures turn out excellent! I’m really pleased with mine, they make you look so pretty haha. Ah, long ass comment eh? You’re lucky. Good night Scott!
