up 3d Studio Max and select Extended Primitives in your drop down menu. Click on torus knot and make it. Change your parameters to these. (click here)
Go to modifiers > parametric deformers (or modifiers in version 4) > wave. Make your parameters like mine. (click here)
OK, go back into modifiers > parametric deformers > squeeze and apply these settings. (click here)
Now go to modifiers > parametric deformers > push. Set the push value to 2.5
Now go to modifiers > parametric deformers > twist. Make your settings like mine. (click here)
Now go to modifiers > mesh smooth and set the interations to 3. Hit the letter M on your keyboard and apply a material. Render and save. This is what I got.
