CGI - Greymatter Installation
  • Script: Greymatter
  • Skill Level: Beginner

  • Final Product: Greymatter successfully installed

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Download gm.zip and unzip it.
  • Upload everything in ASCII mode to your CGI bin or the folder you want your Greymatter to be in. Do not upload installation.htm or manual.htm).
  • Chmod gm.cgi, gm-karma.cgi, gm-upload.cgi, and gm-comments.cgi to 755 and the rest to 666.
  • Create a folder in your Greymatter folder and name it "Archives". Chmod it to 777.
  • Now login to Greymatter by going to http://yourdomain.com/gm/gm.cgi (or wherever you installed it).
  • Your username is Alice and your password is wonderland (Be careful, it is case sensitive!)
  • Once you're logged in, go to Edit Authors and register a new author. Delete Alice and log back in under your new username.
  • Go to Configuration and run the Diagnostics and Repair to see if everything is working correctly. Then go back and make sure your paths are correct (pretty self explanitory).
  • Next, Add a New Entry, then go to http://yourdomain.com/gm/ (or wherever you installed it) to see your new entry.
  • As you can see, the main template is really ugly lol. Go to Edit Templates and edit them to your liking. The main one is the main index for your greymatter, the entry page is where your comments are, and the comments one is relating to comments of course lol. I don't usually edit any other templates because I don't like my archives shown, therefor I don't edit the Archives template. Do whatever you want though.
  • Now your Greymatter should be looking pretty spiffy eh? For more tutorials, check out the main page.
